I used to think that the word caftan was Arabic or Persian.
Stachowski says in his dictionary that '*kāp + *tōn > consists of the combination of Turkish words called kap-don' and adds, 'It was also transferred to German & Polish from here'. Russian Кафта́н is also cognate.
Gülensoy also says 'of Turkish origin'.

I have been examining Paulys Realencyclopädie der classischen Altertumswissenschaft since May 1, 2022. I looked at the words of Scythian / Central Asian / Sarmatian / Thracian origin in this work from a Turkish perspective.
