Kytaia (page 74)

The example of the so-called ash hills in the cities of Myrmekion, Nymphaion and Kytaia on the Crimean peninsula is used to analyse time as a creative agent of urban communities. The ash hills were successively piled up mounds several metres high, made of layers of ash and clay, and containing thousands of animal bones and artefacts. The mounds were located in central areas of the settlements and lasted for long periods, usually centuries. Not only did they form a conspicuous part of the urban fabric, but their amorphous form also created an unusual environmental atmosphere.

Mardians-Ouxians-Elymaians-Kossaians-an-their-Turkic-names

The Geography of Strabo

 *

Strabo writes of four main bandit peoples around the Zagros mountains (today Iran):

 Mardians, Ouxians, Elymaians, and Kossaians.

The names of all these 4 can be explained Turkish.

*

Mardians: Bardı from bar-: to come, to reach; to wander (around), +dı: suffix for the past tense >he/they who came, wandered, etc.

Ouxians: Okçu: simply Archers

Elymaianas: el: land, homeland, +im: possessive Suffix for 1. person singular, ay: moon     >my land (under) moon

Kossaians: there is a legend of the Kyrgyz Türks and in this legend there is a man named Kosay. This name was mentioned on the memorial stone of Kül Tigin as Koşu Tutuk.

*

Strabon, Zagros dağları (bugünkü İran) civarında dört ana haydut halktan bahseder:

Mardian, Ouxian, Elymaian ve Kossayan.

Bu 4 kişinin hepsinin adı Türkçe olarak açıklanabilir.

*

Maiandros-Menderes-Bayindir

Strabo's Geography

Sırası geldi, atlamayalım!
It's time, let's not skip it!
*
Strabon Maiandros/Μαίανδρος ırmağının adını anar, bu bizim Büyük Menderes.
> Kent Maiandroupolis: Bayındırbalık.

Strabon mentions the name of the Maiandros/Μαίανδρος river, our Büyük Menderes in West Türkiye.
> City Maiandroupolis: Bayındırbalık (balık means city in Old Türk language).

İkisi de adını aynı adlı ırmak tanrısından alır.

Both take their names from the river god of the same name.

Bu ad Türkçe Bayandur/Bayundur/Bayındır boy adı ile % 100 uyumludur.
Hem yer ve hem de özel ad olarak hala kullanılır.

This name is 100% compatible with the Turkish tribe name Bayandur/Bayundur/Bayındır.
It is still used as both a place and a proper name. Bayındır means 'the rich' (German: der wohlhabende).

*
Şaşırtıcı değil mi?
Startling similarity!

Battle-cries-Ura-Oorah-Hurra-Hooray-Marha-Vurha

Türk cavalry / pic: wikipedia

*

There are many battle cries that sound similar in Eurasian zone through history.

Those are:

Ura, Hurra, Hooray, Oorah (U.S. Marine Corps whose roots are in Europe) and their versions.

*

As etymology wiki proposes a German one but it is not sure about that. In the end it is a word of unknown origin.

*

And

there is one, only one Sarmatian word that we know: Marha

It is a battle cry that was recorded by Ammianus Marcellinus (4th C. CE) in his work "Res Gestate".

We do not have any other words about the language of the Sarmatians.

While Indo-European historiography assumes that Sarmatians were Indo-European (I don't know why), this one and only battle cry could help about that issue.

We know that the Türks used in ancient times the battle cry "Vur Ha" meaning "strike, c'mon" and all above could be derivatives of this word.

It is definitely not far-fetched.

Türks, who were always a power on the Eurasian steppes brought this battle cry to Europeans (> US Americans) and Russians or they took it easily because the Türk Cavalry was impressive and successful or let us say "the most impressive and the successful"...(In addition, European armies copied the Uhlan and Hussar units from the Turks, too.)

The Sarmatians surely had (at least several) Türk tribes (most probably the combatant elite was Türk) and that is why they cried MARHA and Ammianus understood it but wrote it with a slight difference down!

Vurha became Marha.

Yes, it is possible.

*

TURKISH VERSION:

Avrasya bölgesinde tarih boyunca birçok savaş çığlığı vardır.

Bunlar şunlardır:

Ura, Hurra, Hooray, Oorah (kökleri Avrupa'da olan ABD Deniz Piyadeleri) ve versiyonları.

*

Vurha, Marha oldu.

Evet, bu olasıdır.

Pylaios-ruler-of-the-Pelasgians-versus-Bulay-Han

Strabo the Geography

*

There was a Pelasgian ruler called Πύλαιος/ Pylaios (Pylai-OS) whom Strabo mentions.

It sounded Turkish very quickly in my ears.

*

There is a Bulay Han in the Stories of Dede Korkut, a Turkish story teller who told stories about Old Türks.

*

Another Türk-origined BULAY here:

"Kara Bulay, khan of the Pecheneg (Türk-origined people) tribe "Csoban" from the Don region, around the year 950. " Here Bulay could have been maybe a spring/well (like an Old Türkic word bulag).

I have found this name in a Romanian newspaper:

Link: Kara Bulay in Romania

*

Pylaios/Pulayos without the Greek suffix -OS at the end could have been Türkic Bulay/Pulay (B ~ P change is no problem in Türk languages). Like we have seen above there Bulay could be easily a Türkic name.

*

There was even a town in China's Türk region called BULAYIQ!

Link: BULAYIQ

*

Pelasgians were not Hellenes and this name and its parallels to Türk history prove the possible origin of these!

Pelasgians were -at least partly- of Türk origin!

Theophrastos-Tyrtamos-versus-Turkic-Tortamis

Strabon'un Coğrafyası

Strabon Midilli Adası'nda Tyrtamos adlı birinin adını anar:

Strabon mentions the name of a philosopher: Tyrtamos

Bu adın Yunan öncesi zamandan kalıyor olması olası; Aristoteles değiştirmiş adını bu kişinin.

"Rastlantıya" bakın ki, Kuman kökenli Tortamış adlı bir yer adı var Gagavuzya'da. Adını kuran kişiden almış sanki:

*

It is possible that this original name dates back to pre-Greek times; Aristotle changed his name/1

"By coincidence", there is a place name called Tortamış in Gagauzia, which is of Cuman origin. It seems that it got its name from the founder:

*

Bu gibi Türkçe ritimli ve melodili adları duyunca hemen ararım www'de benzerini. Çoğunlukla da bulurum.

Yunanlılar da kendilerinden eski adları, Yunanca adlarla değiştirmiş tabii ki.

When I hear such Turkish rhythmic and melodic names, I immediately search for a similar one on www. I usually find it.

The Greeks also changed the names older than themselves with Greek names, for a better understanding, of course.

Strabon-Polichna-Turkic-Balik

Strabo Geography

 *

Strabo Polichna adlı bir yerleşim yerinin adını anar.

Burası günümüzün İzmir Urla yakınındaki Balıklıova'sıdır.

Polichna Eski Türkçe kent anlamındaki BALIK sözcüğüne çok benzer. Sondaki +an ise Eski Türkçe çoğul eki olmalıdır (bakınız EREN, OĞULAN).

Sonradan Balıklıova adını tekrar bölgeye veren Türkler, oranın eski adını pek değiştirmemişler :)

*

Strabo mentions the name of a settlement called Polichna.

This is today's Balıklıova near İzmir Urla.

Polichna is very similar to the Old Turkish word BALIK, meaning city. The +an at the end must be the Old Turkish plural suffix (see ER-EN, OĞUL-AN).

The Turks, who later renamed the region Balıklıova, did not change its old name much :)

Birçok Polichna var bu çevrede:

There are many Polichna in this area:

Etymology-of-Themiscyra-Amazon-Capital-Turkic-Tengiz-Kir

Terme/Samsun/Türkiye - Statue of an Amazon

Themiscyra

Amazonların başkenti.

Şimdiki Samsun’un Terme ilçesi.

Themiscyra

The capital of the Amazons.

The Terme district of Samsun in Türkiye today.

*

Bu kentin adının kökeni belli değil.

Benim önerim: Tengizkırı / Denizkırı

The origin of the name of this city is unknown.

My suggestion: Tengizkırı (Old Türkic) / Denizkırı (Modern Türkish), meaning 'Hills by the Sea'.

*

Denizkırı’ndaki 2 sözcük de bu yer adı ile uyumludur.

The two words in toponym 'Denizkırı' are compatible with this place name.

*

Türkiyemizde Kapıkırı ve Dazkırı, sondaki kır ile türetilen yer adlarından ilk aklıma gelenler. Yani Türkçe yer adı kurallarına uygun bir addır Themiscyra.

In Turkey, Kapıkırı and Dazkırı are the first place names that come to my mind that are derived from the word 'kır' at the end. In other words, Themiscyra is a name that complies with the rules of Turkish place names.

*

Tengiz/deniz sözcüğünü İskit Deniz Tanrısı Thagimasades/Thamimasidas da görebiliriz.

Bu tanrıyı Herodot Grek Deniz Tanrısı Poseydon ile eş tutar.

We can also see the word Tengiz (sea) in the Scythian Sea God Thagimasades/Thamimasidas.

Herodotus equates this god with the Greek Sea God Poseidon.

Siginni-tribe-and-Turkic-sigin-for-deer-large-bovine

Strabon'un Coğrafyası

*

Strabon atları ufak Siginni adlı bir budunun adını anar:

Strabon mentions the name of a tribe called Siginni whose horses were small:

Çok fazla bilgi yok elimizde ama hangi kültüre ait olduları söylenemiyor!

We do not have much information but it is not possible to say which culture they belonged to!

Link/Baglanti: About Siginni

Acaba atları ufak olan bu boy, İran'da 19. yüzyılın sonuna kadar bolca bulunan alageyik (sığın) mı yetiştiriyordu?

I wonder if this tribe with small horses raised/had to raise fallow deer (moose) which were abundant in Iran until the end of the 19th century?

Sığın

Ya da onların totem hayvanı mıydı sığın?

Or was moose their totem animal?

Çok eski bir sözcük SIĞIN, diğer Altay dillerinde de görülüyor:

Etymology-of-ancient-city-Zariaspa-Tuerkic-Sari-Sipa

Strabon - Coğrafya

*

Strabon, Baktriya kenti "Zariaspa"dan söz eder.

*

Strabon tells about the Bactrian city "Zariaspa".

*

Wiki, etimolojisi hakkında şunları söyler:

"Balkh için daha eski bir isim veya şehrin bir kısmı için kullanılan bir terim, önemli Zerdüşt ateş tapınağı Azar-i-Asp'den[15] veya "altın renkli atlara sahip olmak" anlamına gelen bir Med ismi olan *Ζaryāspa'dan[16] türemiş olabilecek Zariaspa'ydı (Antik Yunanca: Ζαρίασπα)."

*

Wiki tells about its etymology the following:

"An earlier name for Balkh or a term for part of the city was Zariaspa (Ancient Greek: Ζαρίασπα), which may derive from the important Zoroastrian fire temple Azar-i-Asp[15] or from a Median name *Ζaryāspa-meaning "having gold-coloured horses".[16]"

*

"Altın renkli atlara sahip olan" adı büyük bir ipucudur.

Ahal-Teke adı verilen çok popüler bir Türk at ırkı vardır ve altın rengi tüyleri vardır. O bölgeden gelir.

*

"Having gold-colored horses" is a great hint.

There is a very popular Turkish horse breed called Akhal-Teke and it has golden hair. It comes from that region.

*

Wiki'nin "altın renkli atlar" hakkında söylediklerini kabul ettiğimizde, ZARIASPA için başka bir etimoloji önerebiliriz!

Türkçe SARI ve SIPA (2 yaşındaki tay) sözcüklerini birleştirelim:

SARISIPA: altın renkli tay anlamına gelir.

Bunun çok da uçuk olmadığını ve uyumlu oldugunu düşünüyorum.

*

When we accept what wiki says about "the gold-colored horses" then we can propose an other etymology for that word ZARIASPA!

Türkic SARI means yellow/golden and SIPA means 2-year-old-colt.

SARISIPA means golden colt.

I think it is not far-fetched and compatible.
