"The gens Hortensia was an ancient plebeian family in Rome. Members of this gens are first mentioned in the fifth century BC, but from that time somewhat infrequently until the final century of the Republic. The most illustrious of the gens was the orator Quintus Hortensius, a man of great learning, and a contemporary of Cicero. Under the Empire they seem to have sunk back into obscurity.^[1]"

The linguists relate their name to Latin horto, a garden > and probably signifies that the first to bear the name was a gardener..further says wiki: "The only surnames found among the Hortensii are Hortalus,...."

Or originally ORTALUS.

If we take the words Ortansia, Ortalus (without H at the beginning) then we can have 2 Turkic word, related to each other.

Orta means the middle; military meaning the headquarters.

Ortalu would mean they who have an "Orta" > they who have a chieftain, a bigger clan?

Ortansie ~ Ortanca could mean the one in the middle (not so big, not so small OR not so old,  not so young).

There is a plant called Hortensie (Italian L'ortensia (Hydrangea macrophylla)) and its Turkic name is Ortanca, a plant that is not so big/tall and not small, either.

Orta "orta" anlamının yanında, ordu, karargah anlamına da gelir.

Ortalu, "Orta"sı olan > reisi olan, daha büyük bir klanı olan anlamına mı geliyor?

Ortansie ~ Ortanca ortadaki anlamına gelebilir (çok büyük değil, çok küçük değil VEYA çok yaşlı değil, çok genç değil).

Hortensie (İtalyanca L'ortensia (Hydrangea macrophylla)) adında bir bitki var ve onun Türkçe adı Ortanca, ne çok büyük/uzun ne de küçük bir bitki.
