Alois Vaniček writes about 

κόκκοσ

in his book (that he wrote in year 1878) on the page 26 like:

English translation: 

κόκκοσ means "core of the fruits" and it looks like very un-Greek. There is nothing similar (related) I can propose. It has the meaning of "red", too.....

There is still no etymology of this word. 

Many say it is of Pre-Greek (Non-Greek) origin.

What about Türkish kögüz?

It means breast physically but spiritually it means reason, sense, emotion.

I can think easily of the heart if I hear this word, the core of the life. 

Maybe we can build a parallel to a core of the life like the French who call the heart  "le cœur", simply the core.

Fiziksel olarak göğüs anlamına gelir ama ruhsal olarak akıl, duyu ve duygu anlamına gelir.

Kısaca Hayatın özü?

Belki kalbe "le cœur" diyen Fransızlar gibi, hayatın bir özüne, çekirdeğine, kısaca öze bir paralellik kurabiliriz.
