The word is Scythian and means 'the name given to an animal'.

Diğer bir dilbilgini Mr. Neumann'ın fikrini de yanına yazar. Neumann der ki:

Strabo, ne sığır, ne vahşi at, bence Güney Rusya bozkırlarında bulunan (((adı Çağatay Türkçesi'nden gelen- UZUNBACAK ADEM'İN NOTU))) Sayga Antilopunu (Saiga tatarica)  kastetmiştir der ve devam eder: κολος (Kolos) sözcüğünü Moğolca tay, ufak at anlamına gelen 'Kulan' a benzer, der.

He writes the opinion of an other linguist Mr. Neumann next to it. Neumann says:

"Neither cattle nor wild horse, I think Strabo means Saiga Antelope (Saiga tatarica) that lives in the Southern Russian steppes (((the name Saiga comes from Chagatai Turkish - NOTE OF Uzunbacak Adem))) and compares the word κολος (Kolos) to Mongolian 'Kulan', which means small horse, foal.

Turkish kula is a horse's coat color and may well be found in the origin of the word κολος (Kolos).

Kula meaning: horse color, light brown on top and darker towards the bottom.

Yukarıda okuduğumuz gibi Mr. Neumann sözcüğü Moğolca kulanla ilişkilendirir.

Bense bu sözcüğü reddetmem ama yanına Türkçe 'kulum' sözcüğünün yazar ve öneririm.

Moğolca kulan ve Türkçe kulum aynı Altayca kökten türemiştir.

As we read above, Mr. Neumann associates the word with Mongolian word.

I do not reject this Mongolian word, but I write the Turkish word 'kulum' next to it and propose it as its root, too.

By the way Mongolian kulan and Turkish kulum are derived from the same Altaic root.

Ben yine de Türkçe KULA'yı bu Iskitçe sözcüğe daha yakın buluyorum.
