Pinocchio, a symbol of untruthfulness |
Today we have the verb -to lie-.
According to www.etymonline.com
"lie (v.1)
"speak falsely, tell an untruth for the purpose of misleading," late 12c., from Old English legan, ligan, earlier leogan "deceive, belie, betray" (class II strong verb; past tense leag, past participle logen), from Proto-Germanic *leuganan (source also of Old Norse ljuga, Danish lyve, Old Frisian liaga, Old Saxon and Old High German liogan, German lügen, Gothic liugan), a word of uncertain etymology, with possible cognates in Old Church Slavonic lugati, Russian luigatĭ; not found in Latin, Greek, or Sanskrit."
I can maybe nominate the Turkish word "YALGAN".
YALGAN means -LIE-.
What do you think about my nomination?
Even something to do with Logic, logo., etc?
*DEUTSCH*
Heute haben wir das Verb -LÜGEN-
Laut www.etymonline.com
....ist seine Etymologie unsicher...Nicht aus dem Lateinischen, nicht aus dem Griechischen und nicht aus Sanskrit.
Ich kann das türkische Wort "YALGAN" vorschlagen.
Es bedeutet LÜGE(N).
Was hältst Du von meinem Vorschlag?
Könnte es sogar mit Logisch oder Logo zu tun haben, oder?
*TÜRKÇESI*
Bugünkü kelimemiz, Ingilizcesi -to lie- ve Almancasi -lügen- olan, yalan (söylemek) kelimesi.
www.Etymonline.com diyor ki: Kökü belli degil ve Latince'de, Yunanca'da ve Sanskritce'de yok.
Ben derim ki, Türkçe'de var: "YALGAN".....yalan kelimesinin eski hali.
Bence mantıklı.
Ne dersin?
Bu kelimenin hatta Logic ve Logo kelimesiyle de bi iliskisi olabilir, diyorum.
Uzunbacak Adem
