Some-barbarian-names-by-Strabo-and-their-Turkic-origin

Strabo - the Geography

*

Strabon Helenlerin yaşadıkları hemen her yerin önceden 'barbarlara' ait olduğunu yazar ve bu barbarların bazısının adını verir:

Kodros

Aiklos

Kothos

Drymas

Krinakos

ve biraz aşağıda da Athamanians

*

Bunların Türkçe adlar olması işten değildir:

Kadır: gaddar, acımasız, korkunç

Ayoğlu

Kotuz: Yak sığırı

Durmaz

Kırnak: birçok anlamı var: cariye, güzel kadın, vs. (acaba bunların çocukları mı sözkonusu olan?)

Atamanlar!

*

ENGLISH VERSION:

Strabon writes that almost every place where the Hellenes lived was previously owned by 'barbarians' and names some of these barbarians (see the page above):

Kodros
Aiklos
Kothos
Drymas
Krinakos

and a little further down Athamanians

*
It is not surprising that these are Turkish names:

Kadır: cruel, ruthless, terrible
Ayoğlu: son of the moon
Kotuz: Yak bull
Durmaz: Unstoppable
Kırnak: (the sons of the?) the slave girls

Ataman: this "title" was still in use by the Turks in Medieval Ages. (Ataman is still a male name in Türkic lands).

Uzunbacak Adem

a good article about the word "KIRNAK"

*
> +nak eki Eski ve modern Türkçe'de 'topluluk, küçültme, benzerlik, kuvvetlendirme' gibi ilgilerle getirildiği sözcüğe anlam katmaktadır.

>The +nak suffix in Old and modern Turkish adds meaning to the word to which it is added with relations such as 'community, diminutive, similarity, strengthening'.
