Pamissos-A River with a Pre Greek suffix - isso - suffix -ῑσο- is found in other river names |
I wrote about this suffix
"The suffix -ῑσο- is found in other river names.." says wikipedia.
Look at my former blog below:
There are many waterbodies with this isso, iso suffix in Anatolia, Europe and even in Africa.
Wiktionary says:
I will write about them, sure. Stay tuned.
Today we have the river Pamisos. There I hear a very old Turkish word > SU (Old Versions SUW, SUB, SUV), meaning simply WATER.
The very old Turkish word SU can be constructed in Proto Altaic and Proto Turkish.
Here below you can see the reconstruction:
*
I think, this Pre Greek suffix could be the Turkish Word SU like in OXUS river (Aksu).
Can you hear the Turkish word in it?
There are other waterbodies like:
Issus or Issos (Phoenician: Sissu, Ancient Greek: Ἱσσός or Ἱσσοί) and hence, Narcissus> Narcissus was the son of the god of the river Cephissus and nymph Liriope,...(wiki)
Nemesis noticed this behavior and attracted Narcissus to a pool, where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it, not realizing it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus drowned. Narcissus is the origin of the term narcissism, a fixation with oneself.
source: Narcissus
According to R. S. P. Beekes, "[t]he suffixes [-ισσος] clearly points to a Pre-Greek word.
This Pre-Greek word should be Proto Turkic SU. There iOS no better proposal.
Stay tuned. I will write about this suffix.
