the-name-Odysseus-and-its-etymology

O kadar Homeros okuduk, başbuğ Odysseus'a bakmadık!/1

Wiki'de köken, ne kadar zorlarsan zorla, belli değil. Etrüskler bu adı Uthuze olarak dillerine adapte ediyorlar (Acaba kendi dillerinden bir sözcüğe mi benzettiler de azıcık değiştirdiler?)/2

Türkçe uduz- /3

Odysseus "paşa, başbuğ" anlamına gelebilir.

Kenarda bulunsun!

We read so much Homer, we didn't examine at the name Odysseus!/1

*Turkish wiki*

Translation: Odysseus took on roles such as warrior, army commander, advisor, ambassador and mediator.

On the wiki, the origin is unclear no matter how hard you try. Etruscans adapted this name to their language as Uthuze (I wonder if they thought it resembled a word from their own language and changed it slightly?)/2

Turkish uduz- /3

Türkish verb uduz- means to let follow, to command, to lead!

That means Odysseus could mean (in Turkish Oduz/Uduz) a general or a chieftain!

I think we should keep it mind for the future!
