MaterialCulture-MamelukeSword

Hello,

First of all: what is a mamelukemamluqmamlukemamelukmamelukemamalukemarmeluke or memlük?

It is an Arabic word for "non-muslim slave soldiers".
These were the men who were at the beginning slaves or whose ancestors were slaves. They built the combatting military caste in many regions of this world and they became even the highest ruler of these regions (Egypt, India, Iraq and Acre). There are many Kipchak Turks among the Rulers of The Mamelukes in the history. Not only Turks but also Circassian and Balkan folks were Mamalukes, too.

They fought against Crusaders/Christians, Ottoman Turks, Mongols, Arabs and Portugese, against Napoleon, too (later he had himself a Mameluke as Bodyguard called Rüstem Riza).

But now to our theme:

What is a Mameluke Sword?

Wiki says: "Mameluke sword /ˈmæməlk/ is a cross-hilted, curved, scimitar-like sword historically derived from sabres used by Mamluk warriors of Mamluk Egypt after whom the sword is named. It is related to the swords of the Seljuq empire".

Mamuluke sword is a Turkish origined sword that was adopted by several Western militaries such as French Army, British Heavy Cavalry and U.S. Marines.

Now you can look at pics with many beautiful Mameluke Swords:

Today's U.S. Marine Corps officers' Mameluke sword closely resembles those first worn in 1826.

ΑΣΥΡΛ-WhatCouldItMean?

Twitter!

A place you can see everyday a surprise or a brand-new subject that is interesting for you.

I saw today this pic under:

https://twitter.com/maximaxoo/status/1226056881959047168

A pegasus and 5 letters on a ring.

ΑΣΥΡΛ

The threadowner doesn't know what these "letters" mean and he wrote that he himself is looking for a hint.

I have made a proposal that we maybe read this like it is being written:
My fundamental idea: These were maybe Scythian words/letters. And Scythian was no Indoeuropean language. It could be a Asian/Turkish language.
Now to our script on the ring:

Α

ΣΥΡ

Λ

I must not force my imagination to recognize the middle 3 letters:

ΣΥΡ: SÜR-

Sür- is an ancient Turkish verb that is meaning to ride, to drive, to chase away.
Sürü is a noun derived from that verb meaning simply flock.
ΣΥΡ could be both.

Now it is last letter's turn:

Λ => It is a Greek 'L'.

And the first one ist the hardest one to figure out.

A => Kazim Mirsan would say, it is an AT.
A very old Turkish "Thamga", a letter like a syllable, meaning simply 'horse'.

After these inputs we can try an assumption or two:

It could mean:

* A(t) SÜR(ü) L(e) = This horse is here to be ridden.

or

* A(t) SÜR(ü) (i)L: The land of the horse flocks.

I don't think it is a person whose name stand on this ring. The Greek equip the MEN with an "S" at the end.

An other relation to Middle Asia:
PEGASUS is very similar to TULPAR. What is Tulpar?

TULPAR is a winged horse, just like Pegasus. What is older? We can't say it. We can only say: They are the same.

Look at the pics below:

hannahanna-hahhah-anna-ana-anne-anneanne

A Sunday subject!

Anadolu is really full with ANAs. Anadolu gercekten ana dolu.

I saw by the word "ANA", meaning MOTHER in Turkish, in Ismet Zeki Eyuboglu's book "An etymological dictionary of the Turkish Language" that the root is -most probably- an Anatolian root.
In Hittite Language I have found many words with this syllable -an.
An- has to do with birth and creation.

I have used the link below to find more of the root -AN- and related issues:

http://www.assyrianlanguages.org/hittite/en_lexique_hittite.htm#a

Then I had the idea to look at the name of the female deities of the regions of Eurasia, Mesopotamia and Central Asia and the adjacent regions.

There are many Goddesses who have any kind of

an- (or) -na
en- (or) -ne
in- (or) -ni

in their names. Look at the excel sheet below.

The very interesting one for me and for many Turks is

Hittite goddess HANNAHANNA

SHE is the MOTHER of all Hittite Gods. She ist the "Grandmother".
Grandmother : HANNAHANNA = ANNEANNE. A very fascinating similarity.

And a joke from Germany:

Alle türkischen Mütter heißen Anne = All Turkish Mothers have the name Anne.

German female name = Anne = Turkish word for "Mutter"

Have a nice Sunday!
